I arrived at Auto101, my bakkie overheating. No power, bellowing plumes of thick smoke. Limp mode. Stripped the turbo out, to determine if the spindle broke. All good on that. Suspected that the waste gate was not working properly, checked, all good. Phoned around a bit, advised that it could possibly be injectors. That would mean a sleep over or flights to Johannesburg. (Bear in mind, we're 11 people in two cars.) And collect later. The head mechanic did a bit more investigation, took the throttle body plug off, no difference. Took the plug off on the air filter box, black smoke gone. Open air filter box, let's just say, almost nothing left of the air filter. By this time, it's 3PM already. Jump in the van with the mechanic, rush to Midas Pietermaritzburg. Get a full service kit, service the bakkie, and on the road by 5PM. These guys went out of their way, and we are forever thankful. And the cost of this little excersize? R790.00!
